The Foundation
Unidea-UniCredit Foundation is a private non profit foundation established in 2003 by the UniCredit Group to implement and sustain international cooperation and solidarity initiatives.
Unidea addresses social and humanitarian issues in the assistance, healthcare, education and local development sectors, with a special commitment to developing countries and transitional economies.
The Foundation pursues the following goals:
- to take action in situations of manifest imbalance and inequality during this period of rapid globalisation; to promote and support cooperation and humanitarian aid projects which extend beyond emergency situations with a view to rebuilding vital structures for the development of the communities involved, as well as nurturing a civil, independent and responsible society.
- to produce complementary studies in parallel with humanitarian aid projects and provide more in-depth awareness about the situations involved. This cultural and communication support can also be of assistance to organisations and operators working in the co-operation, voluntary and non profit areas.
- to spread and enhance the value of non profit, charity and voluntary culture, giving employees in the UniCredit Group, in particular, the opportunity to contribute their professional and creative skills to projects.
The Foundation originates project ideas in these sectors, providing guidelines and support, as well as identifying issues to tackle, the countries involved and working partners.
Areas of Intervention
The Foundation is active in the Central and Eastern European countries. Work carried out by Unidea is aimed at strengthening civil society through projects that are promoted and implemented directly by Unidea in collaboration with local partners. In these regions, the Foundation supports also local development initiatives aimed primarily at increasing employment among the young and helping them to integrate into society. To this end, vocational training projects are set up for young people, while entrepreneurship is encouraged through a widespread series of small loans programmes.
In Italy Unidea supports the work of non-profit organisations and voluntary associations working to prevent unease among young people, particularly in the outlying districts of large towns and cities.
With regard to developing countries, Unidea has pinpointed sub-Sahara Africa. The Foundation’s strategy in this area embraces a multi-sector approach which combines initiatives to improve public health and extend the coverage of basic healthcare services, with other actions addressed to improving social and economic conditions.
